Dhaka: Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation Safiqul Islam Khan on Monday announced that the clogged and filled-up canals in the capital will be excavated and cleaned promptly to address waterlogging and dengue concerns ahead of the upcoming rainy season. The DNCC administrator made this statement following an inspection of the Paris Canal in the Mirpur area.

According to United News of Bangladesh, there are also plans to gradually construct walkways along both banks of the canals to protect the environment while enhancing civic amenities. The administrator emphasized that constructive criticism and suggestions from journalists and citizens will contribute to making the work more effective.

In response to a query, the administrator mentioned that canals that have been under illegal occupation for a long time would be liberated through discussions with stakeholders and, if necessary, through legal action.

During the visit, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque noted that residents of the area face severe difficulties whenever it rains. He stated that proper cleaning and maintenance of canal depth would significantly reduce the waterlogging issue.
