Dhaka: The newly appointed Director General for South Asia at Canada’s International Development, Global Affairs, Jean-Christian Brillant, has reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to empowering Bangladeshi youth through technical and vocational education during his first official visit here.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Brillant visited UCEP Bangladesh, a longstanding Canadian partner organization, which provides underprivileged youth-particularly women and girls-with hands-on training in caregiving, welding, auto mechanics, and other trades, as noted in a press release.

During the visit, Brillant interacted with trainers and students, witnessing firsthand the outcomes of Canada’s five-year, 12 million Canadian dollar support that is enabling young people to gain education and skills needed to compete in the global job market.

Canada emphasized that its partnership with UCEP Bangladesh reflected its broader commitment to transforming lives through inclusive and gender-responsive skills training, ensuring access to decent work and sustainable livelihoods.

‘Canada remains committed to promoting inclusive technical and vocational education, helping youth in Bangladesh achieve their potential while strengthening communities,’ the High Commission said in the release.
