Campaign for 1st, 2nd doses of Covid vaccine to continue till Oct 8: DGHS

The ongoing campaign for first and second doses of Covid vaccine has been extended till October 8, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Additional Director General of DGHS Professor Dr Ahmedul kabir made the announcement at a virtual press briefing on Covid-19 vaccination on Monday.

He said the campaign was supposed to end today but due to government holidays and as the target population has not been reached yet the campaign has been extended.

The people who did not receive the vaccine yet can take it within the next three days from the specific vaccine centres under the campaign, said Dr Ahmedul Kabir.

In the last six days, more than 1 crore people have received the first, second and third booster doses of vaccine against Covid-19, he said.

Of the 6, 02,048 received second dose, 15, 04,638 received first dose and the remaining received booster shots, he added.

City Corporations will be informed about the extended campaign immediately, said Dr Shamsul Haque director of DGHS vaccination campaign.

He said, already 98 per cent of the targeted population has been covered with the first dose of vaccine according to previous national survey data.

When asked whether the vaccination of the first two doses will be shut after October 8, Dr Shamsul Haque said, “We might not arrange a campaign for the first two doses anymore. Those who could not receive the vaccine yet will be able to take it from vaccination centers in hospitals and we have enough stock.”
