A documentary poignantly depicting the damages induced by climate change in Nepal, Call of the Mountains, has been screened in the ongoing COP28 in Dubai of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The documentary written and directed by Bal Krishna Basnet, also Chairperson of Press Council Nepal, lucidly portrays the negative impact of the rapidly melting glaciers in the high mountains such as Sagarmatha (Mt Everest) and Annapurna among other mountains on the lives of local residents.

The documentary projected how the incidents of floods and landslides in Manang and Mustang districts as well as in places such as Helambu, Melamchi, Shey-Phoksundo Lake and areas in Terai/Madhesh were increasing alarmingly lately due to climate change.

Nepal has drawn a special attention for climate justice and climate action through the voices of residents of areas hard hit by climate change-induced disasters.

Documentary maker Basnet shared that the documentary was shown in a programme in the Nepal Pavilion in coordination of the
Ministry of Forest and Environment and some other related organizations. An interaction was held among the documentary maker, various thematic experts and audiences, shared Basnet.

Meanwhile, the ‘Voice for Climate Justice’, a documentary written and directed by Basnet that was shown in the last COP27 last year was also shown in the COP28.
