Dhaka:The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs recently reviewed a proposal concerning the direct acquisition of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from JERA Global Markets Pte. Ltd. (JERAGM) based in Japan. The committee resolved to revisit the proposal in a future meeting following an assessment by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury presided over the 35th committee meeting of the year, which was conducted virtually on Saturday.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division submitted the sole proposal for discussion during the meeting. This proposal sought preliminary approval for the direct purchase of LNG from JERAGM as per Section 68 of the Public Procurement Act, 2006, and Rule 99(2) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025.
Furthermore, the proposal requested initial consent for finalizing the Short-Term LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) and the Term Sheet between Petrobangla and JERAGM. The committee concluded that the proposal would be revisited in a subsequent meeting after vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division.
