Tokyo: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today expressed his anticipation for an upcoming meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to enhance the ongoing cooperation between Japan and Bangladesh across various sectors. “There are so many areas of collaboration between Japan and Bangladesh; I want to build on this,” stated the Chief Adviser.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Yunus made these remarks during a meeting with Tsuyoshi Hasebe, President and CEO of Nikkei Inc., at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. The meeting occurred ahead of the Nikkei Forum Future for Asia, where Hasebe expressed gratitude for the Chief Adviser’s attendance despite his busy schedule.

Professor Yunus, who will meet Prime Minister Ishiba on Friday as part of his visit to Japan, acknowledged his regular visits to Japan until the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. He thanked the Nikkei Forum for fostering friendships and opportunities in Japan over the years.

Hasebe, appreciative of Yunus’s commitment, mentioned a Japanese proverb about “picking chestnuts out of fire,” symbolizing the Chief Adviser’s dedication. He hoped Yunus would continue his efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations.

Following the meeting, Professor Yunus addressed the Nikkei Forum Future of Asia, further emphasizing the importance of collaboration between Japan and Bangladesh.
