Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has extended an invitation to Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, to visit Bangladesh and initiate the launch of the Starlink satellite service in the country. This invitation is aimed at fostering technological advancements and improving connectivity across Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Adviser sent a letter to Musk on February 19, emphasizing the potential impact of his visit. The letter highlighted that Musk’s visit would provide an opportunity to engage with Bangladeshi youth, who are expected to be significant beneficiaries of the advanced satellite technology. Professor Yunus expressed a desire to collaborate on delivering a shared vision for a more progressive future.
The letter further elaborated on the potential benefits of integrating Starlink’s connectivity into Bangladesh’s infrastructure. It noted that such integration could have a profound impact, particularly benefiting the nation’s enterprising youth, rural and vulnerable women, and communities in remote and underserved areas.
To facilitate the launch, the Chief Adviser has tasked his High Representative, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, with working closely with the SpaceX team. The goal is to ensure that Starlink is ready for launch in Bangladesh within the next ninety working days.
Prior to sending the invitation, Professor Yunus engaged in a comprehensive telephonic discussion with Musk on February 13. The conversation focused on exploring future collaborations and advancing the introduction of the Starlink satellite internet service in Bangladesh.
