CA Holds Meeting with Pakistan PM on UNGA Sidelines

Dhaka: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters here in the USA Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to discuss various critical issues on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters. The meeting focused on topics such as Bangladesh’s forthcoming general elections, interim government reforms, the recent floods in Pakistan, trade and investment, and regional cooperation opportunities.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Adviser expressed his deep sorrow and offered condolences for the over 1,000 deaths caused by the recent floods in Pakistan. Prime Minister Sharif linked the increasing disaster frequency and severity to climate change’s escalating impacts.



Prof Yunus informed that Bangladesh is preparing for its general election scheduled for February next year. He expressed optimism that the 11 national commissions’ proposed political reforms would bring significant political changes. He mentioned that discussions between the National Consensus Commission and political parties are nearing completion, with a “July Charter” on constitutional and political reforms expected to be signed soon.



The leaders also explored alternative ways to boost regional cooperation, considering SAARC’s recent inactivity. Prime Minister Sharif invited Chief Adviser Professor Yunus to visit Pakistan during the interim government’s period.



Bangladesh’s National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, Principal Secretary Siraj Uddin Miah, and SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed were also in attendance at the meeting.
