CA Holds Meeting with Chiefs of Reform Commissions.

Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today held a meeting with the chiefs of reform commissions formed to expedite the state reform initiatives. The meeting was held at the Chief Adviser’s Office (CAO) in Tejgaon here.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the meeting, Public Administration Reform Commission chief Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury informed the chief adviser of the progress of the reform works undertaken by his commission. He stated that the works of the Public Administration Reform Commission have commenced in full swing, with public opinions already being sought through their website. Commission members have visited district and upazila levels to exchange views with the populace, ensuring a grassroots-level engagement.

Further updates were provided by the commission, indicating that continuous exchanges are being held with representatives of various cadres of public administration. They expressed optimism about submitting their report within the stipulated timeframe, as conveyed b
y the chief adviser’s press wing.

Highlighting the progress in police reforms, Police Administration Reform Commission head Safar Raz Hossain reported that the commission has conducted 10 meetings and four additional meetings with stakeholders. A questionnaire aimed at gathering public opinion has been posted online. The commission is actively scrutinizing proposals to amend some laws and rules, with an emphasis on simplifying certain processes. Hossain also mentioned ongoing work on a proposal to modify methods for controlling mobs, alongside potential changes to several sections of the Criminal Procedure Code-1898.

Electoral Reform Commission chief Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar shared insights on electoral reforms. Efforts are being made to ensure voting rights for Bangladeshi expatriates, and work on postal ballots is underway to facilitate franchise through postal means. Emphasizing the alignment of the voter list with the national identity card (NID), the commission is focusing on enhancing women’s particip
ation in the electoral process through effective measures. Digital platforms are being utilized to contact stakeholders and gather suggestions to refine the electoral process further.
