Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has greeted the countrymen on the occasion of Bangla New Year 1432. In a video message on Bangla New Year, he called upon the countrymen to work with renewed pledge and enthusiasm to build a new Bangladesh.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Yunus emphasized the significance of the 2024 mass uprising, highlighting that it has presented an opportunity to create a discrimination-free country. He urged everyone not to lose this valuable chance and to pledge towards building a discrimination-free Bangladesh in the New Year. Prof Yunus described Pahela Baishakh as a day of harmony and unity, encouraging people to come together and leave behind the past’s sorrows and negativity, moving forward with determination.

He also called on citizens to actively protect and promote the country’s culture and heritage globally, emphasizing that the Bangla New Year offers a chance to present their long tradition to the new generation and the world. Prof Yunus remarked that Pahela Baishakh is a universal festival for Bangalees worldwide, a day filled with joy and renewal.

The Chief Adviser explained that the Bangla Year began as a ‘crop year’ to aid farming, a practice still relevant today as farmers align their agricultural activities with the Bangla calendar. He also mentioned the enduring tradition of ‘Halkhata’ in markets, towns, and ports, despite modern times.

During the Baisakhi fairs, entrepreneurs have the opportunity to display their creativity through traditional crafts such as shital pati, clay pots, and toys. Prof Yunus noted that various ethnic groups in the hills and plains are celebrating Chaitra Sankranti and Bangla Nababarsha on a large scale this year.

The Chief Adviser expressed hope that Nababarsha 1432 will bring prosperity and joy to everyone, wishing success for all Bangla New Year programs.
