DHAKA: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has called for an emphasis on developing work habits that prioritize social welfare, urging citizens to integrate these practices into their daily lives. His remarks came during the inauguration of the Walkathon and Social Service Conference held on Manik Mia Avenue, an event organized by the Department of Social Services to mark the National Social Service Day 2025.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Yunus highlighted the shared responsibility of social service, noting that it is a duty for all individuals and not just the government. He stressed the role of the ministry in reminding people of this responsibility, aiming to prevent any deviation from these duties. “Social service is the responsibility of all and the job of the ministry is to remind all so that none forgets this responsibility, does not move away from it… I hope this call will reach all,” he stated.

Professor Yunus emphasized the inherent tendency in individuals to work for the benefit of others and encouraged this inclination to be nurtured. “Working for the welfare of others is more joyous than doing something for oneself,” he remarked, urging people to find fulfillment in serving others.

He further noted the power of collective citizen action, encouraging individuals to contribute to national progress instead of relying solely on government efforts. “The power of people is greater than the power of a government,” he said, advocating for personal initiative in societal advancement.

Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S. Murshid and representatives from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement also addressed the event, supporting the call for increased social responsibility and engagement from all sectors of society.
