Dhaka: Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus today called for collective efforts to build a knowledge-based, inclusive, and humane society by utilizing the combined power of technology and literacy. “The current interim government is trying to build Bangladesh in a new way after the July mass uprising. Let us work towards building a Bangladesh where a knowledge-based, inclusive and humane society will be built with the combined power of technology and literacy,” he said in a message issued on the occasion of “International Literacy Day 2025”.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Yunus expressed his pleasure that ‘International Literacy Day 2025’ is being observed in Bangladesh on September 8, alongside other nations worldwide. He emphasized that literacy is an essential element for a nation’s development and progress. In today’s technology-dependent world, literacy extends beyond reading and writing to include digital knowledge, information usage skills, and the ability to engage in technology-based education.

Dr. Yunus further explained that effective literacy now encompasses finding information, analyzing it, learning online, and solving everyday problems. He highlighted that those who are lagging in information technology use are not only deprived of education but also disconnected from the mainstream of society and the economy.

He praised this year’s theme of the day, ‘Promoting Literacy in a Digital Era,’ as timely and significant. Dr. Yunus underscored the immense importance of work-oriented and skill-based education to thrive in the current competitive world. He advocated for an education system that, alongside traditional education, offers opportunities to acquire digital skills to everyone, particularly women, children, marginalized communities, and people with special needs.

The Chief Adviser emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to provide digital training for teachers, equip students with necessary technology, and change the attitudes of parents. He extended his best wishes for the overall success of all programs undertaken for ‘International Literacy Day 2025’.
