Bukhara: Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Dr. Mohammad Monirul Islam, today urged business leaders in Uzbekistan’s Bukhara region to import Bangladeshi ready-made garments, jute and jute products, and pharmaceuticals. This call to action came during a meeting with Bukhara Region Governor Zaripov Batyr Kamilovich at the Governor’s office.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting underscored the historic, cultural, and religious ties between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, with Ambassador Islam highlighting opportunities to deepen these connections. He pointed out that Bukhara, as a prominent Silk Road hub, could play a significant role in strengthening bilateral trade, cultural exchange, and tourism. Ambassador Islam noted that Bukhara’s revered sites, like the birthplace of Imam Bukhari and the shrine of Bahauddin Naqshbandi, hold great interest for Bangladeshi tourists. Similarly, he mentioned that attractions in Bangladesh, such as Cox’s Bazar, the Sundarbans, and the shrine of Hazrat Shah Ja
lal (R.), could draw tourists from Uzbekistan.

The Ambassador also proposed establishing a “sister city” relationship between Bukhara and a city in Bangladesh to foster friendship and enhance people-to-people ties. Governor Zaripov expressed his commitment to enhancing business, cultural, and tourism ties with Bangladesh. He suggested a future visit by a Bangladeshi business delegation to Bukhara and expressed interest in establishing a sister city collaboration. Additionally, the Governor showed interest in visiting Bangladesh at a suitable time.

Ambassador Islam held separate meetings with business leaders from Bukhara’s textile, carpet, and pharmaceutical sectors, where they exchanged views on strategies to enhance trade and investment opportunities between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan.
