Tokyo: Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus today urged the youths to build ‘three zero clubs’ to save the planet from destruction, warning that the planet will not sustain under the current civilization. “The civilisation we are building today is a self-destructive civilisation that will kill (the planet),” he stated during his lecture at Soka University in Tokyo.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof. Yunus emphasized that human survival is at risk due to ongoing environmental destruction worldwide. He highlighted his three zero theory-zero carbon emission, zero wealth concentration, and zero unemployment-as crucial steps to address these challenges. He pointed out that the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few is detrimental to society.
Prof. Yunus also addressed the issues of unemployment and the future challenges posed by artificial intelligence. He proposed forming ‘three zero clubs,’ where groups of five commit to not using fossil fuels, to foster environmental responsibility.
He called on the younger generation to embrace creativity to forge a new world, suggesting that pursuing jobs often stifles innovation. Prof. Yunus asserted that humans are inherently entrepreneurial and that creativity is essential to human identity.
In addition, he advocated for the establishment of social business clubs to nurture entrepreneurship. He encouraged students to use their imagination to create a new reality, emphasizing that “imagination gives you the power to unleash yourselves.”
Prof. Yunus also shared the inspiration behind his microcredit journey, which began in a small village near Chittagong University, where he taught economics. During the event, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Soka University, acknowledging his contributions to social innovation and global development.
