Khulna: Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and Joint Editor of the Daily Ittefaq, Anwar Aldin, facilitated treatment for over 2,000 eye patients in his locality as part of an ongoing humanitarian initiative. The eye treatment and cataract surgery camp took place in Nagar Sreerampur, Paikgacha Upazila, Khulna, under the supervision of Anwar Aldin and was organized by the Zia Primary Health Care Center.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a 12-member medical team consisting of experienced doctors and nurses from BRAC and Khulna BNSB Eye Hospital treated patients from 9 am to 1 am. A number of cataract patients underwent free surgeries, with the surgery patients receiving free sunglasses and a one-month supply of necessary medications, funded by Sightsavers. This marked the largest eye care camp ever held in the area.
Dr. Abdul Majid, convener of Paikgacha Upazila BNP, presided over the ceremony, with Anwar Aldin addressing the event as the chief guest. Senior leaders of the district unit BNP, including KM Ashraful Alam Nannu and Sheikh Shamsul Alam Pintu, were among those who addressed the gathering.
The medical team featured renowned doctors such as Dr. Hafizur Rahman Ashik and Dr. Asif Hasan. People from Paikgacha, Koyra, and surrounding areas, including those from underprivileged backgrounds, attended the camp for free eye examinations, specialist consultations, and distribution of eyeglasses and medications.
Patients with cataracts were identified for surgery and IOL implantation. Comprehensive diagnostic testing was conducted for eye pressure, blood pressure, and diabetes, with over 500 patients selected for free cataract surgery.
Anwar Aldin emphasized the camp’s purpose as a social responsibility to serve ordinary people who cannot afford eye treatment. He expressed plans for future initiatives, bolstered by the enthusiastic participation from diverse backgrounds.
A beneficiary, Anwara Khatun, expressed gratitude for receiving free consultation and surgery, highlighting the initiative’s impact on the poor and expressing hope for its continuation.
Anwar Aldin has a longstanding involvement in charitable and welfare activities in the region, including the establishment of mosques, madrasas, orphanages, clinics, and infrastructure projects. He also leads efforts to provide seasonal aid and food distribution during religious festivals, reflecting his commitment to social welfare.
