Dhaka: Bangladesh Sangbadpathro Karmachari Federation (BSKF) and Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers (BFUNPW) today urged the Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) to extend the Eid holidays to five days on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the two federations made the call from an emergency joint meeting held at the BSS employees’ union office in the city. The call comes in response to NOAB’s decision to declare a three-day Eid holiday, which contrasts with the government’s announcement of a five-day Eid vacation, as stated in a press release.

BFUNPW President Md Alamgir Hossain Khan presided over the meeting, while BSKF President Matiur Rahman Talukder spoke as the chief speaker. Other leaders from both federations also addressed the gathering.

During the meeting, the leaders highlighted that the government’s five-day vacation for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr should be mirrored by the newspaper industry. They argued that NOAB’s decision to limit the holiday to three days is discriminatory towards journalists and press workers and constitutes a violation of their rights.

The federations called on NOAB to extend the Eid holiday to five days for the newspaper industry, enabling its members to celebrate with their families. They expressed hope that NOAB would reconsider their demand and ensure fair leave for journalists and press workers.
