Bagerhat: A brick kiln worker, identified as Thakur, aged 55, was killed in a tragic road accident on the Abul Khair Bridge over the Madhumoti River in Mollahat upazila early today. The incident took place around 5:30 am as he was making his way to work.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Thakur, a resident of Girishnagar village, was pushing his bicycle across the bridge when a covered van, traveling from Gopalganj, veered into the opposite lane and struck him. The van continued its journey towards Khulna after the accident, leaving Thakur deceased at the scene.
The driver of the van managed to escape, and local authorities are currently investigating the incident. Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman of Mollahat Highway Police Station confirmed the occurrence.
The police have stated that the body will be returned to Thakur’s family following the completion of legal formalities.
