Dhaka:A goalkeeper training camp aimed at advancing women's hockey in Bangladesh is set to be inaugurated at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium. This initiative is part of the 'Aparajeyo Alo Women's Hockey Development Programme,' sponsored by BRAC Bank.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inaugural ceremony will take place tomorrow at 11 am, featuring senior officials from BRAC Bank and the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF), alongside former star hockey players. The programme's objective is to enhance grassroots women's hockey by nurturing young talent and honing players' technical skills.
The camp, designed for 24 promising female goalkeepers selected from 22 districts, provides participants with a complete set of professional goalkeeper gear, a hockey stick, and practice balls, all courtesy of BRAC Bank. These participants, ranging from Class VII students to those at the higher secondary level, are receiving intensive training at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.
Under the supervision of the BHF, the residential camp offers accommodation and meals for the trainees, who engage in rigorous training sessions twice daily. The training is conducted by two experienced trainers, including former national women's hockey team goalkeeper Sumi Akter, who is serving as the lead trainer. This effort aims to develop the participants' skills to meet international standards.
