Rajshahi: The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway has awarded Enamul Haque, who prevented a potential accident involving the Panchagarh Express train yesterday in the East Chandipur area of the Fulbari-Birampur railway route.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the award-giving ceremony took place at the conference room of the Rajshahi Railway Building, with Engineer Farid Ahmed, General Manager of the zone, presiding over the event. In a modest ceremony, Enamul Haque was presented with a certificate of honor, a crest, and a cash award.
Engineer Farid Ahmed, speaking on the occasion, highlighted Enamul Haque’s intelligence and presence of mind, which saved several hundred passengers from a potential train accident near Birampur. Following this heroic act, the Prime Minister directed the Western Zone of Bangladesh Railway to honor him. “We have gathered here today to present this recognition,” he added.
He further expressed gratitude towards Enamul Haque and acknowledged the contributions of residents near railway lines and frequent train travelers who often provide vital information to railway authorities, aiding in safe railway operations. “Enamul Haque has done the same for us. We thank him again,” he stated.
Enamul Haque shared his experience, explaining that while walking beside the railway line in the East Chandipur area between Fulbari and Birampur, he noticed a broken section of the Parbatipur-Fulbari-Dhaka railway track. Acting quickly, he alerted nearby individuals to inform the railway office. In the absence of a red flag, he used a banana blossom tied to a stick to signal the approaching train.
The Panchagarh Express arrived within about five minutes. Observing his signal, the train was able to stop at a safe distance. “I feel grateful to have been able to do this and thank Almighty Allah,” Enamul Haque remarked.
The event was attended by officials and staff of the Western Zone of Bangladesh Railway.
