Dhaka: Bangladesh Railway (BR) has urged the public to purchase train tickets either through its official ‘rail seva’ app or directly from designated counters to prevent fraud and harassment during the upcoming Eid-ul Fitr celebrations. The railway authorities have initiated the sale of tickets for special Eid trains starting March 14, amidst concerns over potential black market activities due to high demand.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the sale of tickets for the Eid journey, which runs from March 24 to March 30, allows a maximum of four tickets to be purchased at one time using a single ID. The ID holder is permitted to endorse the names of co-travelers. Similarly, for the return journey from April 3 to April 9, a maximum of four tickets can also be purchased against a particular ID. It has been mandated that all railway tickets for Eid journeys must be sold online, with no other outlets authorized to sell tickets apart from the ‘rail seva’ app or official railway counters.

Passengers are warned against purchasing tickets from unauthorized sources, as this could lead to harassment or fraudulent activities. Under current railway regulations, individuals purchasing tickets with their ID are required to travel with both their mobile phone and the ID. Legal measures will be enforced against those attempting to travel with tickets bought using someone else’s ID.

BR has encouraged the public to report any attempts by unauthorized individuals or entities to sell tickets to railway officials or law enforcement agencies. Passengers are advised to seek assistance from the Bangladesh Railway security force and the government railway police (GRP). Complaints can also be made through the Bangladesh Railway hotline by dialing 131.
