BPL Football: B.Kings crush Ctg Abahani 5-0; Dhaka Abahani play 1-1 with Swadhinata KS

Twice champions Bashundhara Kings further consolidated their top slot in the 12-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football ‘2021-22 outplaying giant killer Chittagong Abahani Ltd by 5-0 at their home ground–Bashundhara Sports Complex– on Friday

In the day’s well merited victory, big-budget Bashundhara Kings not only earned their biggest victory in the league but also maintained their solo lead intact in the competition securing 21 points from eight matches.

With the 7th consecutive victory after a shocking defeat against newcomers Swadhinata KS in league opener, the King’s smartly boosted their claim to clinch the league crown for the 3rd time in a row after losing the season’s first two major trophies–Independence Cup and Federation Cup football

Despite the day’s debacle, the port city team Ctg Abahani remained at the 4th slot in the league table with their previous credit of 12 points from eight outings.

In the day’s match, Brazilian playmaker Kings captain Robson Robinson struck twice in the 28th and 43rd minutes after local striker Sumon Reza opened the floodgate in the 17th minute.

National coloured winger Mohammad Ibrahim and Nigerian origin Bangladesh citizen Eleta Kingsley scored one goal each for the star studded Kings in the 32nd and 67th minutes respectively

In the day’s another match, newcomers Swadhinata KS forced six times champions Dhaka Abahani Ltd to a 1-1 draw at the Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium in Rajshahi.

With the day’s upset, the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani went down in the title race with 17 points from eight encounters four points behind the league leader Kings.

National striker Nabib Newas Jibon put Dhaka Abahani ahead in the 39th minute (1-0) while Iqbal Hussain restored the parity for Swadhinata KS in the 80th minute (1-1).

In the day’s other match at the Bir Shreshta Fl Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj , three-time champions Sheikh Jamal DC split points with Saif DC in 2-2 affairs.

After barren first half, Otabek put Sheikh Jamal ahead in the 50th minute. (1-0) while Sunday Udoh leveled the margin for Saif SC in the 55th minute from a penalty (1-1).

Sunday Udoh put Saif SC ahead from behind scoring his 2nd goal in the first minute of the stoppage time (90+1 minute) while Solomon King saved Sheikh Jamal from first defeat scoring the match equaliser just three minutes later (90+4 minute)

After the day’s draw, Sheikh Jamal DC remained at 3rd slot with 16 points while Saif SC remained at 5th place with 11 points, playing eight matches each.
