Bogura road crash leaves 5 dead; Bus set ablaze

Five people including a child were killed and another was injured as a bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Shajahanpur upazila of the district on noon.

Of the deceased, four were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Hazrat Ali, 50, passengers--Nurnabi Badsha, 60, Golam Rabbani Badsha, 60, Afsana Mimi, 5, and a 25-year-old unidentified woman. They were from several upazilas of the district.

The injured person has been undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH).

Abbas Ali, assistant sub inspector of Koigari police outpost, said the accident occurred around 12 noon when the Dhaka-bound bus crashed into the auto-rickshaw, leaving four people dead on the spot and two critically injured.

The injured victims were rushed to the SZRMCH where physicians declared one of them dead, he said.

Enraged by the deaths, locals set fire to the bus, said the ASI.

Mohammad Ali, SI of Shajahanpur police station, said on information they rushed to the spot.

The bus caught the fire following the blast of the gas cylinder of the auto-rickshaw, he said adding that they are investigating the matter.

The district administration announced to give Tk 20,000 to the families of each deceased for burial.
