Dhaka: The body of Mariam Khatun, 19, the second wife of Satkhira-4 constituency lawmaker Gazi Nazrul Islam, was recovered from a flat at NAM Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital this evening.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Monirul Islam stated that police, acting on information, rushed to the spot and found the body hanging from a ceiling fan in a room of Flat No. 203 on the third floor of Building No. 5 of NAM Bhaban. The incident has prompted teams from the Detective Branch (DB) of police, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), and the forensic unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to reach the scene for further investigation.
Gazi Nazrul Islam, who was elected from the Satkhira-4 constituency in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election with the nomination of Jamaat-e-Islami, was previously involved in a controversy in July. A video showing his personal moments with a young woman circulated on social media, which he later confirmed to be Mariam Khatun, his second wife. As a result of the scandal, Jamaat-e-Islami expelled Gazi Nazrul Islam from the party on July 22.
