Sherpur: The bodies of two minors were recovered from a pond in Nalitabari upazila of the district early today, around 12 hours after they went missing. The deceased were identified as Rohan, aged 7, and Ismail, aged 8. Their bodies were found in a pond located in the Madhya Nakshi area of Koloshpar union.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, local residents revealed that the two minors did not know how to swim but would occasionally enter nearby ponds to catch fish. The children left their homes at noon on Sunday and failed to return, leading to a search by the community.
In the early hours of Monday, local residents discovered the bodies of the minors floating in a large pond in the Madhya Nakshi area. The grim discovery has left the community in shock and mourning.
Nalitabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman confirmed the recovery of the bodies, stating that they were handed over to the families without autopsies. The decision to forego autopsies was made following requests from the relatives, who were present during the recovery.
