Bodies of missing 3 in Sylhet landslide recovered

SYLHET, Bodies of three people of the same family,

including a child, were recovered from a mound of soil in Chamelibagh here

around 1.00pm today.

The victims are– Agha Karim Uddin, 31, his wife Mst. Shammi Akhtar Rozy, 27,

and their two-year old child Taniz.

Earlier around 7am today, due to heavy rainfall, the dune suddenly collapsed

burying three and injuring four at house number 89 of road no. 2 of

Chamelibagh residential area here.

Locals quickly started rescue operations. Four people were rescued and

admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital but the missing three

people could not be rescued.

Being informed, teams of Fire Service and Sylhet City Corporation went to the

spot and tried to get them out.

As the rescue was not possible till 11 am, a team of 17 Infantry Division of

the Army joined the rescue operation.

The lifeless bodies were recovered after moving the piles of soil aside by

cutting through the ground by accelerator machines around 1.00 pm.

ent, Sylhet City Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, Sylhet

Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Russell Hasan and Area Commander of Army’s 17th

Infantry Division Chowdhury Mohammad Azizul Haque Hazari visited the spot.

“We will provide the injured with any kind of assistance they need,” the

mayor told the journalists after visiting the spot.
