BNP’s mass sit-in programme foiled in Faridpur

The mass sit-in programme of BNP and like-minded opposition parties was foiled as a group of youths wearing helmets attacked on their protest programme at Ambika Maidan of Faridpur district town on Wednesday.

 

Witnesses said a group of around 50 unidentified people wearing helmets attacked the leaders and activists of BNP and other opposition parties when they gathered there to hold their programme.

They hurled crude bombs and threw brick chips at the BNP men, triggering a chase and counter-chase between them.

 

AK Kibria, member secretary of Faridpur District unit BNP, said the ruling party men in the wearing helmets attacked us and exploded crude bombs and threw brick bats, leaving 20-25 people of BNP injured.

 

On information, police rushed to the spot and fired bullets and lobbed tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.

 

Sumon Ranjan, additional superintendent of Faridpur (Sadar Circle) Police, said there are several factions of BNP and the clash erupted among the factions.

A number of policemen were also injured during the incident.

 

Police also arrested some people from the spot.

 

BNP, like-minded opposition parties and alliances on Tuesday staged mass sit-in programme in the capital and other divisions to press home their ten-point demand as part of the simultaneous movement against the current government.
