Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized the party’s determination to succeed in its ongoing struggle to establish democracy in the country. Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled “Historical Events of November 7: Ziaur Rahman and Today’s Bangladesh” at the National Press Club, Khasru highlighted the importance of confronting all conspiracies to achieve this goal.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khasru noted that the BNP has been actively engaged in movements and sacrifices to restore democracy over the past 15 to 16 years. He stressed that the fight is not yet over and warned that a failure to win this battle would mean a loss for Bangladesh.

Khasru pointed out that the people are the main guardians of democracy, but he alleged that various quarters are attempting to foil the upcoming election. He accused these groups of undermining democracy by obstructing the election process, despite their claims of supporting democratic values. He called for unity and vigilance among the people to defeat all conspiracies.

He further described democracy and the BNP as interdependent, stating that the BNP cannot function without democracy, and democracy cannot be complete without the BNP. He attributed the establishment of many democratic rights in the country to the BNP.

Khasru recalled the leadership of BNP founder and Proclaimer of Independence Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who assumed state leadership following the Sepoy-People’s Revolution on November 7, 1975. He credited Ziaur Rahman with abolishing BAKSAL, introducing multi-party democracy, ensuring judicial independence, and restoring media freedom.

He also praised BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for her unwavering commitment to democracy, even enduring imprisonment, and acknowledged the ongoing guidance of the movement by the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman from abroad.

Khasru expressed confidence that democracy would be re-established through the upcoming national parliamentary elections in February and urged party leaders and activists to work towards the success of BNP-nominated candidates, emphasizing the necessity of unity and collaboration.
