Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has stated that the BNP was the first to propose an outline for state reforms, challenging Hasina’s authoritarian regime on the streets. Rahman emphasized that the BNP discussed reforms not from a position of advantage but while actively engaging in a movement and contemplating the establishment of a democratic nation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman made these statements during a virtual discussion on the BNP’s 31-point outline for restructuring the state and citizen’s mindset, which was announced on Sunday night. He criticized those currently discussing reforms while benefiting from government resources such as cars, salaries, bonuses, and allowances. He questioned the sincerity of those who previously spoke of reforms during Sheikh Hasina’s regime.

Rahman recalled the period when BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and numerous leaders and activists were imprisoned, facing harassment and legal cases. During this tumultuous time, the BNP introduced a 31-point reform agenda. Rahman asserted that the BNP is committed to implementing these reforms to transform the lives of the people once they assume power.

He acknowledged that the party may have made mistakes and faced limitations, and some members might have engaged in immoral activities. However, he highlighted that the BNP does not shy away from acknowledging wrongdoing and does not tolerate wrongdoers within its ranks. The BNP’s primary goal, he reiterated, is to improve the lives of the people of Bangladesh.

Rahman called upon all party members and citizens to support the BNP in realizing the 31-point reform plan, emphasizing that collective effort is essential for bringing about positive change in the country.
