Dhaka: The newly elected members of parliament (MPs) from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have resolved to forgo duty-free cars and government plots. This decision was reached during the inaugural meeting of the BNP parliamentary party, which took place at Sangsad Bhaban following the MPs’ oath-taking ceremony.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was communicated by BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, who informed reporters that the resolution was made unanimously with considerations of public expectations and political ethics in mind. The meeting underscored the importance of aligning with the people’s sentiments and maintaining a high standard of political morality.
Earlier, the newly elected BNP MPs, including party chairman Tarique Rahman, were sworn in at Jatiya Sangsad. The ceremony was conducted in accordance with constitutional provisions, with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin administering the oath of office to the lawmakers at the Oath Room of Sangsad Bhaban at 10:43 am.
A BNP leader who attended the parliamentary party meeting shared that discussions also covered the importance of active parliamentary participation, addressing public interest issues decisively, and upholding political decorum irrespective of their position, whether in government or opposition. Emphasis was placed on transparency and accountability as essential measures to sustain public confidence in their leadership.
