Dhaka: A court here today acquitted BNP Cumilla divisional organizing secretary Selim Bhuiyan from a corruption case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). The Judge of the Special Judge Court-1 of Dhaka, Abul Kashem, pronounced the judgment as the allegations against the BNP leader were not proved during the trial.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ACC Assistant Director Abdul Wadud filed a case against Selim Bhuiyan on June 20, 2019, with Ramna Model Thana for his alleged involvement in acquiring significant illegal wealth and concealing the information about his wealth. Following a detailed investigation, the ACC submitted a charge sheet against him on February 13, 2022. The court framed charges against Selim Bhuiyan on August 24, 2023.
The ACC reported that Selim Bhuiyan had concealed information about wealth worth approximately Taka 1,09,75,932 in his wealth statement, while commission officials found his wealth to be around Taka 4,43,48,413. Furthermore, he failed to provide valid documents for wealth worth about Taka 1,31,00,883, which was beyond his known source of income.
