Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) vice-chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo today urged the interim government to immediately announce an election roadmap. "The people want to see an elected government in the country, so the interim government should arrange a free, fair, and neutral election quickly," Mintoo stated while addressing a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club as the chief guest. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion meeting was organized by the National Democratic Party (NDP), chaired by its chairman KM Abu Taher, and conducted by NDP Secretary General Abdullah-Al-Harun Sohel. Among the speakers were National People's Party (NPP) chairman Advocate Fariduzzaman Farhad, former lawmaker Naser Rahman, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Advocate Dr. Md. Helal Uddin, and Labour Party chairman Mustafizur Rahman Iran. In his address, Mintoo emphasized the public's desire for an elected government to eliminate societal disparities. He noted that reforms are ongoing and stressed that any delay in hold ing elections would be unacceptable to the populace. Mintoo further clarified that the BNP seeks to avoid chaos in the country. He highlighted that students, citizens, and various political parties, including the BNP, had previously ousted the Awami League (AL) government to strive for a society free of discrimination. Other speakers at the event called for immediate action to bring back corrupt leaders and workers of the AL for prosecution, accusing collaborators of the former regime of conspiring against the nation. The participants also stressed the urgency of improving the law and order situation and reducing the prices of essential goods. They claimed that certain vested interests are attempting to destabilize the country's garment sector for personal gain.
