DHAKA, March 25, 2017 (BSS)- Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today made a scathing attack on the BNP-Jamaat combine, saying the alliance resorted to the destructive path instead of pursuing democratic polity.
"BNP and Jamaat are accomplices of Pakistan," he told a meeting organized by Sromik Kormochari Peshajibi Somonnay Parishad in city's Shahbag marking the Genocide Day.
Shipping Minister and Convenor of the organization Shahjahan Khan presided over the meeting while Jatiya Somajtanthrik Dol (Jasod) General Secretary Shirin Akther, Nurjahan Begum Muktha, MP, and Actress Rokeya Prachi, among others, addressed the meeting.
Tofail said the people are away from the BNP-Jamaat alliance for their destructive activities and added "People have no faith on them."
Criticizing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for her comment on the number of martyrs in the 1971 Liberation War, he said BNP wanted to cash on in the genocide issue politically.
On this night 46 years ago, Tofail, also member of Awami League Advisory Council, said the military machine of Pakistan had unleashed one of the worst mass killings in a single night on March 25 by machine guns, tanks, mortars and automatic weapons.
He said more than one lakh people were killed in the crackdown, code named "Operation Searchlight".
