Dhaka: Extensive public engagement and the steady implementation of election pledges have been among the major achievements of the BNP government's first 180 days in office, Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Spokesperson Mahdi Amin announced on Monday. He shared these insights during a presentation on the government's activities and accomplishments at the International Conference Centre 'Shapla' at the PMO in Tejgaon.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Mahdi Amin emphasized the government's commitment to its election manifesto, highlighting its accountability and responsibility to the people. He noted the significant public gatherings at various events attended by the Prime Minister, showcasing the government's dedication to public engagement. The spokesperson also emphasized the administration's respect for freedom of expression, rule of law, and human rights, despite challenges such as provocation and indecent behavior.
Mahdi further outlined the vibrant nature of the current Parliament, where debates and criticisms are encouraged, and more than 100 ordinances have been converted into laws, marking an unprecedented move in the nation's history. Among these legislative changes was the enactment of an amended anti-terrorism ordinance, which resulted in the banning of a political organization accused of establishing fascist rule.
He detailed the government's achievements across ten key areas: unprecedented public support, democratic values, fulfillment of election promises, tackling domestic and global challenges, inclusive development, improvements in living standards, financial-sector reforms, law and order stability, infrastructure and sustainable development, and a dignified foreign policy under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's leadership.
Acknowledging the difficulty in addressing all issues after 16 years of what he termed fascist rule, Mahdi asserted that the government has demonstrated the highest levels of sincerity, accountability, and responsibility. He promised continued efforts towards building a prosperous, self-reliant, and humane Bangladesh.
Prime Minister's Press Secretary Saleh Shibly also highlighted the government's success in restoring the dignity and respect of ordinary citizens. He recounted the Prime Minister's empathetic visit to the family of a child killed in Mirpur, and his straightforward approach during public bus travels, ensuring minimal public inconvenience.
The event, moderated by Saleh Shibly, was attended by several key figures, including PM's Political Adviser Nazrul Islam Khan, Political and Industries Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, and others, who all contributed to the discussion on the government's first six months in office.
