Dhaka: Former state minister for the home ministry Lutfozzaman Babar today conveyed the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) apprehensions regarding a meeting between the deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and S Alam Group in India, which is perceived as an attempt to disrupt the upcoming national elections.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, these concerns were articulated during a meeting between a BNP delegation led by Babar and Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury at the home ministry located in the Bangladesh Secretariat. Babar stated that the meeting aimed to apprise the government of BNP’s concerns, in an effort to support the interim government and the Chief Adviser in conducting peaceful elections.

Babar highlighted specific issues involving the upcoming national elections, particularly the meeting between ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and S Alam Group in India, which he believes is intended to thwart the electoral process. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the recovery of looted and illegal firearms and ammunition.

When questioned about the current law and order situation, Babar refrained from a definitive yes or no answer but acknowledged the government’s efforts in addressing the issue. He further mentioned that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman plans to return to the country soon.

Expressing gratitude, Babar noted his return to the home ministry after 16 and half years, following his recent release from jail after being acquitted of all charges in multiple cases.
