Dhaka: BNP candidate Israt Sultana Elen Bhutto has been elected unofficially from the Jhalakathi-2 constituency in the 13th national parliamentary election.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, she secured 113,419 votes, surpassing her nearest rival, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate S M Nayeamul Karim, who received 70,556 votes. In the referendum conducted alongside the election, 147,297 voters cast ‘Yes’ votes while 53,920 others opted for ‘No’ votes in this constituency.
The election results were announced at the Result Collection and Dissemination Centre located at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon area today.
