Bogura: Golam Mohammad Siraj (G.M. Siraj), the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for the Bogura-5 constituency, has declared that his main political ambition is to uphold the rights and dignity of the people.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bogura-5 seat has traditionally been a BNP stronghold, with the party securing victory in five out of the twelve national elections held up to 2024. G.M. Siraj has a significant history with this seat, having served three consecutive terms from 1991 to 2006.
For the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election, G.M. Siraj has once again been nominated by BNP. He has held prominent roles within the party, such as the convener of the Bogura District BNP and a member of the BNP Central Committee’s Advisory Council.
In an exclusive interview, Siraj outlined his electoral promises, emphasizing his commitment to tackling key issues in Sherpur and Dhunot, including employment, fair agricultural prices, education, and healthcare. He aims to implement BNP’s 31-point charter to foster development for all citizens, irrespective of political affiliation.
Siraj has instructed party leaders and activists to strictly adhere to the electoral code of conduct, advocating for peaceful and law-abiding campaign activities. He underscored the importance of a free and fair referendum process, aligning with the party chief’s support for the ‘Yes’ vote.
With the parliamentary elections approaching, Siraj expressed his hope for a neutral and credible electoral process, emphasizing that the people’s verdict should be respected for the sake of democracy.
The Bogura-5 constituency is contested by five candidates: G.M. Siraj (BNP), Dabibur Rahman (Jamaat-e-Islami), Mir Md. Mahmudur Rahman (Islami Andolon), Shipon Kumar Rabidas (CPB), and Khan Kudrat E Saklain (LDP). The voter population in Sherpur Upazila includes 306,841 individuals, while Dhunat Upazila comprises 265,499 voters. The constituency features 188 polling centers with 1,023 booths.
