Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold a 16-day special 'Victory Torch Road Show on the Month of Victory' as part of the celebration of the 55th Victory Day. The event will begin on December 1 from the historic Kalurghat radio station in Chattogram from where the then Major Ziaur Rahman proclaimed independence of Bangladesh in 1971.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the programme at a press conference at BNP chairperson's Gulshan office in the capital this afternoon. The event will see the 'Victory Torch' commence its journey from the historic Kalurghat Radio Station, a site intricately tied to Bangladesh's independence and Liberation War, and arrive at Biplob Udyan in Chattogram on the same day.
The Victory Torch will be led by a distinguished freedom fighter of 1971 and a July warrior of 2024. From Chattogram, the road show and rallies will sequentially cover Cumilla, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Bogura, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, and Faridpur. In each division, the torch show will be spearheaded by a renowned freedom fighter and a July warrior from that region.
Throughout the 16-day celebration, the road show will visit historic sites associated with the independence and Liberation War in each division. The national anthem, songs of the Liberation War, and patriotic songs will be performed. Excerpts from speeches by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, and BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will be featured.
Cultural performances by pro-BNP cultural organization JASAS and documentary screenings will also take place. Additionally, BNP's 31-point outline for building a safe, prosperous, and democratic Bangladesh will be presented to the public. The theme song of the programme is 'Sobar Age Bangladesh' (Bangladesh First before everything).
After visiting all divisions, the Victory Torch will reach Dhaka on December 16. On this day, the 'Victory Torch Road Show in the Month of Victory' will culminate with a grand rally at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka. In conjunction with this special event, other activities celebrating the Month of Victory will continue.
