Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today asserted that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) remains prepared to participate in elections, underscoring the party’s commitment to democracy and the electoral process. “BNP is always ready for elections. BNP wants to come to power through elections. Even if an election is held tomorrow, we are ready to join it,” Fakhrul stated during a press conference at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul emphasized that the BNP is not a revolutionary party, but one that seeks power through the electoral mandate of the people. He highlighted the party’s preparedness for elections by pointing out their desire to gain power through the democratic process and public support.
Fakhrul also addressed the timing of potential elections, suggesting that December is a feasible month for holding them. He noted that April would be an inconvenient time due to the overlap with Ramadan, two major public examinations, and the monsoon season. He remarked that historically, most elections in Bangladesh have occurred between December and January, with exceptions being problematic.
