Dhaka: Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) organized a two-day 'Content Development Planning Workshop on Community Radio and Social Media on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) and Digital Development'. The workshop concluded today at the YWCA Conference Room in the city's Mohammadpur area, with Director (Project-1) of NGO Affairs Bureau Md Anwar Hossain attending the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop was part of the "Strengthening Resilience Against Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) and Promoting Digital Development" Project. It brought together 18 senior programme producers and station managers from nine community radio stations. The aim was to equip them with the necessary skills, strategies, and tools to create audience-centered programming and social media content that addresses TFGBV while fostering inclusive digital development.
This initiative is part of the Nagorikata-Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) Programme, implemented with technical support from GFA Consulting Group, and funded by the Embassy of Switzerland and Global Affairs Canada (GAC). The workshop featured sessions on understanding technology-facilitated gender-based violence, the concept of digital development and its impact on TFGBV, laws and regulations on TFGBV and social media use, the concept of gender and its relation to development, community radio programme ideas and formats, social media integration planning, and law enforcement mechanisms for combating TFGBV.
Speaking on the occasion, Anwar expressed hope that community radios would play a crucial role in raising awareness through radio programmes and social media content. He urged the participating broadcasters to actively involve local administration in these initiatives to ensure greater impact and sustainability. National Programme Officer-Gender and Human Rights of UNFPA Abu Sayed Sumon, BNNRC CEO AHM Bazlur Rahman, Legal Consultant at International Centre for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) Sharmin Khan, and Imam Hossain of Steps Towards Development were among the expert facilitators during the workshop.
