BGMEA Launches Japan Desk to Enhance Apparel Trade with Japan

Dhaka:Bangladesh The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has launched the "BGMEA Japan Desk" at its Uttara Complex to promote economic cooperation, trade, and investment with Japan.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Japan Desk aims to serve as a one-stop platform for Japanese apparel buyers and investors, focusing on processing small- and medium-sized orders, facilitating investments, and developing a strategic partnership in the ready-made garment sector. This initiative is part of the "Japan Market Strategy Development Committee," led by BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman.

During the inauguration, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi expressed optimism that the desk would boost bilateral trade and emphasized the need for export diversification for sustainable economic growth. BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan highlighted the potential of the Japanese market for Bangladesh's RMG industry and called for overcoming lead-time challenges to expand market share.

BGMEA Vice President Mizanur Rahman requested the Japanese Ambassador to simplify travel visas for Bangladeshi apparel entrepreneurs. BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan (Bablu) and representatives from Japanese organizations commended the industry's compliance standards and the potential for deepening economic ties.

The event included a presentation on BGMEA's activities and the Japan Desk's operational plan, attended by high-level delegates from the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka, JETRO Dhaka Office, and various Japanese corporations and organizations. The program concluded with a Q and A session on Japanese investment prospects and bilateral networking.
