The meeting took place at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, with participation from over 40 brand representatives, focusing on strategic partnerships and sustainable development in the apparel sector.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussions centered on enhancing cooperation between apparel brands and BGMEA to ensure a sustainable supply chain. Key topics included the 20% tariff imposed by the United States on Bangladeshi apparel, the introduction of a Unified Code of Conduct, product diversification, labor reforms, renewable energy adoption, preparation for LDC graduation, and challenges related to the GSP Plus threshold.

BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, along with other BGMEA leaders, led the discussions. Emphasis was placed on seeking cooperation from apparel brands to formulate a Unified Code of Conduct, which aims to simplify audit processes and improve ethics and sustainability across the industry. BGMEA Director Nafis-ud-Doula presented a power-point detailing the benefits of such a code.

Labor reform was highlighted, with BGMEA President Khan underscoring recent progress in aligning with international standards for a sustainable and safe industrial environment. He urged brands to partner in transforming Bangladesh’s apparel industry positively.

The Buyers Forum stressed logistical development, resolving NBR and customs complexities, and prioritizing internationally compliant labor practices and environmental sustainability. They noted the potential for industry growth through fashion design and proposed establishing a Technical Design Section at BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT).

BGMEA leaders called on apparel brands to support the industry through better pricing models, efficiency, and ethical practices, emphasizing the need for strong partnerships with suppliers to produce innovative, high-quality products.
