Cox's bazar: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully conducted separate operations across various border areas, leading to the seizure of 20,000 yaba tablets, 54 bottles of Indian Eskuf syrup, 172 bottles of Indian liquor, and 50 pieces of medicine. The operations also resulted in the arrest of two individuals connected to these activities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BGB press releases outlined the details of these operations. In Cox's Bazar, a special patrol team from the Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) uncovered 20,000 yaba tablets in the Karengaghona area under the Whykong Border Outpost (BOP) on August 9. The tablets were found in two blue airtight packets, hidden inside a khaki-colored package wrapped in black polythene, after a search prompted by intelligence inputs.
In separate efforts, the Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB) apprehended two individuals in possession of 54 bottles of Indian Eskuf syrup. Ripon Mia, 35, was arrested in the Dighaltari area with 45 bottles on August 9, while Md Sabuj Mia, 25, was detained in Dharampur under Fulbari upazila of Kurigram with nine bottles of Eskuf syrup and two mobile phones on August 10. The seized syrup and phones have a combined value of Tk 39,100. Legal action was initiated against the detainees as they were handed over to the police along with the confiscated items.
Further operations by patrol teams from Matila and Madhabkhali BOPs under Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) led to the seizure of 172 bottles of Indian liquor and 50 pieces of 'Urofollitropin for Injection BP' from Maheshpur and Jibannagar upazilas. These items were found abandoned on August 10 and are valued at Tk 3,36,500.
BGB emphasized the ongoing commitment to border security through intelligence surveillance and anti-smuggling operations. Plans are in place to enhance these operations in sensitive border regions to curb drug trafficking and smuggling activities.
