Dhaka: Director General (DG) of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui today inaugurated the ‘BGB Fisheries Week-2025’ as part of the ‘National Fisheries Week-2025’ programme at its Pilkhana Headquarters.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BGB Chief commenced the programme by releasing fish fry of various species in the pond adjacent to Shaheed Captain Ashraf Hall of BGB HQ this morning. The initiative aligns with the theme of the National Fisheries Week-2025, ‘Building a sanctuary, filling the country with local fish’. Major General Siddiqui emphasized the cultural significance of fish in Bengali cuisine, noting that fish provides 60 percent of the country’s meat requirement and is a critical source of nutrition.

The BGB Chief urged all BGB establishments to renovate ponds and reservoirs to promote fish farming. He encouraged every BGB member to contribute actively to national development by participating in significant initiatives across the country.

Major General Siddiqui also appealed to the public to support the Fisheries Week-2025 by cultivating local fish, aiming to address the meat shortage and foster a self-reliant Bangladesh.
