Dhaka: Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is preparing to hold a stakeholders’ hearing focused on adjusting gas prices for fertilizer production, slated for October 6. This initiative aligns with BERC’s prior announcement aimed at revisiting the existing pricing structure.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the hearing will be conducted from 10 am to 5 pm at the Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM) situated in New Eskaton, Dhaka. The energy regulatory authority has extended invitations to all relevant stakeholders to participate in this critical discussion on gas price adjustments.

The proposal for this review comes from several state-run entities, including the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla), Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution, Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited, Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited, and Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited. These organizations have advocated for a revision in gas pricing to better align with current market conditions.

BERC has called upon concerned individuals, institutions, or organizations to submit their written opinions on the proposed changes by September 30. Furthermore, interested participants are required to register with the commission by September 28 to ensure their involvement in the upcoming hearing.

The commission has also clarified that registered participants are welcome to present their analyses and supporting documents concerning the licensees’ proposals for gas supply and distribution during the hearing. For those interested in reviewing the proposals, BERC has made them available for collection during office hours at the commission’s premises. Alternatively, all relevant documents can be downloaded from the commission’s official website.
