Dhaka:The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has introduced dedicated country desks to attract and facilitate investments from China, South Korea, and Japan. This initiative aims to enhance services and encourage business growth within its export and economic zones.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the desks were inaugurated at a 'Meet the Investors' event in Dhaka attended by over 100 local and foreign investors, along with representatives from business chambers of the three countries. These desks are designed to offer direct assistance, investment-related information, and guidance tailored to the needs of existing and prospective investors.
BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain stated that this initiative is intended to strengthen partnerships with investors, address their concerns, and create a more competitive and business-friendly investment environment. Despite global economic challenges, BEPZA signed investment agreements with 36 enterprises in the fiscal year 2025-26, and exports from its zones reached $8.41 billion, marking a 2.22% increase from the previous fiscal year.
The declaration of several zones as full-fledged areas, including BEPZA Economic Zone-1, BEPZA Economic Zone-2, Jashore EPZ, and Patuakhali EPZ, was highlighted as a significant development. Hossain urged investors to expand operations in these new zones in collaboration with supply-chain partners and emphasized the promotion of sustainable industrial practices.
BEPZA is also focusing on improving investor services such as power supply, Investors' Clubs, fire stations, healthcare facilities, and a streamlined One Stop Service. The dedicated country desks are expected to help existing investors expand their businesses and attract new investments.
BEPZA Member (Investment Promotion) Md Tanvir Hossain presented the authority's accomplishments in investment attraction, export growth, and employment during FY26. He also addressed the simplification of investor services and the development of new economic zones and EPZs.
An open discussion at the event allowed investors and BEPZA officials to exchange views on investment expansion and service delivery. The Bangladesh EPZ Labour Act, 2019, was also discussed, with a reaffirmation of BEPZA's commitment to maintaining international labour standards.
Representatives from the Bangladesh-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry were in attendance. Established in 1980, BEPZA oversees eight EPZs and two economic zones, contributing significantly to Bangladesh's total exports.
