Dhaka: Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid has highlighted the significant contributions of Begum Rokeya, describing her as not only a pioneer of Bangalee Muslim women’s awakening but also a brave soldier.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sharmeen S Murshid made these remarks during the 3rd convocation ceremony of Central Women’s University held at the Officers’ Club. She emphasized the courage and sacrifices of past generations, particularly during the July Uprising, in striving towards the vision of a new Bangladesh. Murshid acknowledged the determination of women who stood firm against exploitation and discrimination.
The event was graced by Education Adviser Professor Dr CR Abrar as the chief guest, with university Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Parveen Hasan presiding over the ceremony. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan also addressed the gathering as the convocation speaker.
Sharmeen S Murshid announced plans to create internship opportunities at the Ministry of Women and Children for postgraduate students, allowing them to engage in research related to the ministry’s administration. She congratulated the students on their postgraduate achievements, emphasizing the broader purpose of education beyond obtaining degrees.
Murshid concluded by urging the graduates to embrace education as a means of fostering awareness, responsibility, and a commitment to justice and truth, with a focus on society and the environment.
