Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) today called upon the Bangladesh Police to be a people-friendly force. “Build you up as a people-friendly force,” he told Bangladesh police while exchanging views with police officers marking the Police Week-2025 at Bangladesh Police Auditorium of the Rajarbagh Police Lines.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser asked the police personnel to change the mindset of the people towards the police force through good behaviour, expected services, and honesty. He emphasized, “Make sure that the common people are not harassed in any way.”
Jahangir urged the police to work for the people with neutrality, keeping above any political influence. He advised, “Don’t take special advantages from anyone and keep yourselves away from bribery and corruption.”
The Home Adviser mentioned that the government has been working to resolve the problems of the police, including an acute crisis of accommodation and vehicles. He stated, “We have been working to resolve various problems with the police. Steps have been taken to purchase 200 pick-up vans for the police stations. It is scheduled to place before the purchase affairs committee of the cabinet today.”
Recognizing the numerous challenges faced by the police personnel, he asked them to perform their duties with patience and to handle challenges thoughtfully. “Don’t charge batons and exert excessive force unnecessarily. It is possible to resolve many problems through discussions and patience,” he remarked.
The Home Adviser also indicated that initiatives have been taken to provide loans for purchasing motorcycles, adding that sub-inspectors (SIs) and assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) will receive the loan at the primary stage.
