Dhaka: The Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) has called for stronger trade and investment cooperation between Bangladesh and China through greater facilitation of Chinese investment, skills development, promotion of Bangladeshi products, and regular dialogue to address bilateral trade challenges. The issues were discussed when Director General of the Trade Organizations Wing of the Ministry of Commerce Mohammed Mostofa Jamal Haider paid a courtesy call on the BCCCI at its Gulshan office on Tuesday, said a press release today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BCCCI President Mohd. Khorshed Alam briefed the DG on the chamber's key proposals, including establishing "Made in Bangladesh" outlets in China to promote Bangladeshi products, setting up technical and polytechnic institutes for skills development, addressing raw material shortages, facilitating Chinese investment, and resolving challenges related to bilateral trade and financial transactions.
The DG appreciated the BCCCI's initiatives and its role in promoting Bangladesh-China business relations, saying the proposals raised by the chamber merit due consideration. He stressed the need for maintaining a positive and supportive business environment, strengthening skills development, and addressing trade and investment challenges through regular dialogue and mutual visits.
BCCCI Adviser to the President Shahid Alam briefed the DG on the chamber's activities and recent developments. He said the current executive committee has expanded the chamber's activities with greater focus and effectiveness. He also briefed the DG on the chamber's recent election, saying it was conducted under a government-appointed administrator in accordance with applicable rules and procedures. He said the process resulted in a participatory and broadly accepted election that was appreciated by stakeholders.
The meeting was attended by the BCCCI secretary general, senior vice-president, vice-presidents, directors, members, and executive director.
