Dhaka: The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from the capital's Lalbagh area. The detainee, identified as Samad Uddin Bijoy, 27, holds the position of general secretary of BCL's Mugda Thana unit and is also the vice-president of Dhaka South City Sheikh Russell National Shishu Kishore Parishad.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CTTC officials conducted a raid in the Lalbagh Thana area around 7:00 pm today, acting on a secret tip-off. During the operation, Bijoy was apprehended, having been under surveillance for his suspected involvement in political unrest.
CTTC sources noted that Bijoy had participated in protest processions linked to the Awami League. The activities of this group remain banned in the Agargaon and Demra areas of Dhaka, prompting law enforcement to take decisive action against individuals associated with such activities.
