Accra:Scheduled banks across the country will remain closed for five consecutive days starting tomorrow, in observance of Durga Puja and the regular weekly holidays.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the holidays will occur on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, October 20-22, for Durga Puja, followed by the regular weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24. This schedule is outlined in a circular issued by Bangladesh Bank (BB).

The central bank's Supervisory Data Management and Analytics Department distributed the circular to the managing directors and chief executive officers of all scheduled banks operating in Bangladesh. It also instructed banks located in seaports, land ports, and airports, including port and customs areas, to maintain operational branches and sub-branches throughout the week as per a previous circular from August 5, 2019.

These branches are advised to coordinate with local administration and relevant port or customs authorities to facilitate essential banking services, particularly for import and export activities, during the holidays. The directive is in accordance with Section 45 of the Bank Companies Act, 1991.
